President Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to visit Ethiopia arrived on Sunday, 26 July 2015 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa in an official state visit after paying a visit in neighboring Kenya.
The presidential plane, Air Force One, touched down in Addis Ababa on Sunday, where Obama was greeted by Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, and presented with flowers by brightly dressed children. A 21-gun salute greeted the US president as he arrived for the talks in Addis Ababa.
The United States is the country’s fourth-largest trading partner. Still, Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries in Africa, and unemployment stands around 17%. To create jobs, the country’s leaders want to expand trade and maintain growth.
Meanwhile Ethiopia has been undergoing an economic renaissance. The country’s gross domestic product has grown by more than 10% a year during the past decade.
