It means being able to interact in a new cultural context that will enable us to function in a society different from our original one. It not only expands our possibilities for work, entertainment or travel, but it expands our awareness of the world as we know it today—a world that has shrunk due to international flights, the Internet, and a general understanding that cultural diversity is what makes us human.
